About Me

Guangzhou, China, January 2019

I'm a traveler, teacher, linguist, bibliophile, blogger, and sewer among my many other interests. I'm originally from the Pacific Northwest, having grown up mainly in the Portland, Oregon area and received my B. A. in Japanese at Portland State University, along with a TESL Certificate received after completing a 4-year program through the Applied Linguistics department.

Since graduating, I've been primarily teaching and traveling overseas. Between 2010 and 2020, my work took me to Japan, Chile, South Korea, and China. You can read the story of my years abroad on this blog, where I share what it's really like to live and work in another country, as well as detailed information about culture and travel that I hope will be helpful to my fellow adventurers.

At the start of the pandemic, I returned to the US to live with family. I'm now in southern California but hoping to join my wife in the UK very soon, where we will start the next chapter of our life.
